Amazon has recently announced an update to its return policy for buyers in Italy, specifically for Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) orders. The change aims to promote more sustainable and cost-effective return methods by encouraging customers to use nearby drop-off locations instead of home collections.
What’s Changing
Under the new policy, if a free “Returns without packaging and without label” option is available within 1 kilometer of the buyer’s location but they still choose home collection, a €2.95 fee will apply. This fee will be charged regardless of the reason for return.
Other return options, such as dropping off the package at a post office or pickup point, will remain free of charge.
What Sellers Should Know
Sellers do not need to take any action to implement this update. The €2.95 fee will be automatically deducted from the buyer’s refund when applicable.
It’s important to note that this new return fee does not apply to shoes or apparel, which are excluded from the change.
Why This Update Matters
This adjustment is part of Amazon’s ongoing effort to:
-
Encourage the use of eco-friendly return methods.
-
Reduce logistics costs and optimize return operations.
-
Offer convenient, sustainable options for buyers while maintaining transparency.
By promoting drop-off returns, Amazon continues to enhance efficiency across its European marketplace network while balancing cost and convenience for both buyers and sellers.
